Two and a Half Days with Cliff Mautner

With wedding season fast-approaching, I spent this past week with a fun and talented group of photographers from all over the country (and beyond) at Cliff Mautner’s Lighting & Skillset Bootcamp. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Cliff, he is a photography legend. A former photojournalist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Cliff has been named as one of the top ten photographers in the world by American PHOTO Magazine, was chosen as Nikon’s Wedding and Portrait Photographer of the Year in 2012, and was recently featured on the cover of Rangefinder Magazine (among countless other awards and accolades). In addition to being an incredible photographer, Cliff is also an amazing teacher. He is patient, kind, funny, passionate and personable. He put every ounce energy into imparting his photographic and business wisdom to the class in the form of “infotainment.” Over the course of a few short days, I learned to look at light in ways I had never imagined and to control and craft light even the harshest or most dismal situations to create a beautiful image. If you are a photographer looking to take your work to the next level, Cliff will help you do that. If you are thinking about taking the workshop and wondering whether it’s worth the time away or the expense, stop debating and just do it. It is worth all that and so much more.
